New Environmental Impact Assessment proceeding for projects to be located in Buenos Aires Port
By means of Resolution N° 1/2019 the Ministry of Transport altogether with the Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development approved the proceedings of the Environmental Impact Assessment regarding the construction projects or activities that take place in Buenos Aires harbour, that may degrade the environment in a significant way, any of its components or affect the quality of life of the population.
This Resolution establishes a list of typologies of construction projects or activities subject to the environmental impact assessment procedure which are infrastructure, hydraulic works and waterways, energy and fuels, industrial activities and associated facilities, extractive activities and health services.
Any person or corporation -public or private- prior to the execution of certain kind of construction projects or activities must comply the procedure of environmental impact assessment and obtain an Environmental Impact Declaration issued by the Secretary of Environment and Sustainable Development.
Construction projects or activities that are not detailed in this Resolution, are exempted from initiating the procedure of the environmental impact assessment. For such projects, the National Harbour Authority may require the submission of documentation and environmental management actions it deems appropriate.
Exemptions from the environmental impact assessment procedure may be made for construction projects or activities that need to be developed in response to the occurrence of an emergency and/or disaster under the terms of the Law of the National System for Integral Risk Management and Civil Protection N° 27.287.
