News on the amendment to the Glacier’s Law

On November 14th, 2017 the President of the Republic of Argentine convened a meeting with entrepreneurs, the head of CAEM, the provinces, and unions to discuss the Law of the Protection of Glaciers.

The participants agreed that the current law does not allow the development of mining activities in the mountain range area. The Executive Power affirmed that it will lead the initiative to amend the law of protection of glaciers in order to arbitrate between the environmental protection and the development of economic activities. It is expected that by February 2018 the bill to amend the glaciers law will be presented in Congress.
