New special retirement system for the construction industry

The National Congress passed Law 26,494 which establishes a new special retirement system for workers of the construction industry. Under this Law construction workers may qualify for retirement benefits after reaching 55 years old, to the extent that they may credit services with social security contributions for, at least, 300 months.

The mentioned requisite also establishes that 80% of the last 180 months contributions must be related to services rendered in the construction industry.

The financing of this new system shall be made by special employer’s social security contributions, which shall be gradually increased beginning at 2% and ending at 5%.
